What kind of movies

I'd like to be fortunate enough to make

I'd like to make movies that teeter between being character and plot driven. I'd like the main/central character to reach a boundary situation, separate from the catharsis, that shifts the narrative point of view of the film. These shifts can take place through a dream or hallucination (an opposing reality/dis-reality) or through building psychological stress effecting the narrative point of view. I want these situations to change/shift the camera language of the movie to reflect that character's perception. This is because I believe the world is a terrifying place. With the daily bombardment of sensory information in the modern world, I believe we have become less in tune to our surroundings and that the cinema is one of the last places we are encouraged/feel responsible to tune in. I want my films to show how the confrontation (or recognition of) these stresses can change the way we see things -a way which I believe is more truthful.

I'd like the characters in my films to teeter/balance between character and characterization. I'd like each character on screen to, at least at times, be playing themselves...to have an element of caricature. This is because, I believe, we are all at odds with ourselves until we recognize things as they are (a difficult, and perhaps, impossible task).

These types of stories can happen in any genre. I am much more concerned with/interested in form than I am with subject. That being said, some of the things I am generally interested in exploring through motion pictures are:

Identity, Power, Isolation, Perspective, The Blues, Ghosts, Phenomenology, Wealth, Psychological Disorders, The Industrial Revolution, War, The History of Louisiana, Marxism, Space, Bad Sex Scenes, Airplanes, The South, Solidarity, Saudi Arabia, Existentialism,  Thomas Jefferson, Pugilism, Geographical Borders, Female Empowerment, Russia, Colorado, Bridges, Doorways, Montana, Florida, New York, Walking and Japan.
